ON DON DIALECTALISMS IN MIKHAIL SHOLOKHOV'S DICTIONARY OF THE LANGUAGE

The authors of "The Dictionary of the Language of Mikhail Sholokhov" did not limit themselves to dialecticisms noted in the writer's texts. Nevertheless, a significant portion of it consists of words and phraseological units common in the Russian dialects of the Don region and, to a certain extent, characteristic of the Upper Don dialects. Dictionary entries are accompanied by information about the presence of lexemes in various dictionaries. Sometimes the lexeme is recorded only in two dictionaries, reflecting their existence in the Don dialects. It seems that the lexeme belongs to the Don dialectisms proper, i.e. its territorial affiliation is narrowed, and sometimes distorted. Checking lexemes in the Dictionary of Russian Folk Dialects (which was not part of the tasks of the authors of the dictionary) makes it possible to clarify the territorial characteristics of this or that dialecticism, and most importantly, to identify truly Don dialecticisms.
