The socio-economic and political situation in the soviet Far East and its impact on the confrontation between the USSR and the united states at the initial stage of the «Cold War»

The article analyzes the policy of the Soviet leadership aimed at the development of the Far East in 1945-1955 with the goal of resisting the aggressive US course in the Asia-Pacific region. On the basis of archival materials and scientific literature, measures taken to improve the defense capability of the USSR on the eastern borders have been investigated. The author examined the factors that influenced the internal migration policy pursued by the government in the post-war years. Particular attention is paid to improving the system of protecting the state border on the Pacific coast of the country, especially in Chukotka and the Kuril Islands.
