Culture-based use of certain precedent names in set expressions of the Cuban national variation of Spanish

The article deals with the semantics and actualization in speech of a number of set expressions of Cuban Spanish. These expressions include 4 precedent names that remain in memory of the Cuban people due to certain historical events. The article analyses dictionary meanings of the studied names in Cuban culture, reveals opposite connotations in the semantics of some expressions which include these names, and considers their connection with linguistic and extra-linguistic factors. A conclusion is made about the need for further, more detailed study of such vocabulary in order to understand Cuban history and culture reflected in the language.
