The article presents a brief theoretical review of the study of phrasal verbs with a description of the satellite in the composition of phrasal verbs. Synonymy is described as a type of semantic relations of linguistic units in modern linguistics. In this article, a synonymous row of English phrasal verbs with satellite off was classified and analyzed. The analysis was carried out on the basis of dictionary entries of various phrasal verb dictionaries. Data from the British National Corpus and Corpus of Contemporary American English were used. The purpose of this study is to determine whether phrasal verbs belong to the American or British language, to identify linguistic and cultural features and the specifics of using the synonymous row of phrasal verbs. The study of the synonymous row of phrasal verbs demonstrates that in order to determine whether a phrasal verb belongs to American or British English, it is not enough to refer only to dictionary entries. The distinctive characteristics that a synonymous row of phrasal verbs have were indicated.
