COMMUNICATION SKILLS AND VERBAL VOCABULARY IN STUDENTS WITH INTELLECTUAL DISABILITIES AND AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDERS

The article examines the process of speech communication in students with intellectual disabilities and autism spectrum disorders. The purpose is to present the results of the author's study of communication skills, to determine their formation, to identify the state of passive and active verbal vocabulary in students with intellectual disabilities and autism spectrum disorder. The study is based on the analysis of theoretical literature and generalization of the experience of specialists in the correctional field. A speech therapy examination of a 10-year-old junior student with intellectual disabilities and autism spectrum disorders was conducted. The analysis of the results showed that the student has unformed communication skills and a low level of development of the vocabulary of verbal lexemes, which is an important component of the interaction process in society. Consequently, specific speech skills and violations of the assimilation of verbal vocabulary complicate the socialization of the declared category of children, which leads to a lag in the development of their oral and written speech, contributing to the emergence of problems in the development of the school curriculum.
