THE RELATIONS OF VERBAL AND NON-VERBAL IN THE GERMAN-LANGUAGE POLYCODE TEXT: BASED ON THE MATERIAL OF POPULAR SCIENCE TEXTS

The article presents an analysis of polycode popular science texts in German aimed at identifying the relationships between its verbal and non-verbal components. The study identified four main types of such relationships – interaction, complementation, duplication, and duplication with complementation. Their diversity allows non-specialist readers to interpret the text from various perspectives. The author's task, in turn, is to establish frameworks for perceiving the text, leading the reader to agree with their opinions, evaluations of facts, conclusions, or internalize them as their own. To ensure these conditions and a clear understanding of the author's presentation, an appropriate combination of verbal and non-verbal elements must be selected in each case.
