THE TRANSMISSION OF EMOTIONS THROUGH COLOR WORDS IN ENVIRONMENTAL ARTICLES IN ENGLISH AND SPANISH

Nagornov Mikhail Igorevich  (PhD Student, Peoples' Friendship University of Russia )

The article examines the influence of color meanings as lexical emotives on the transmission of emotions in environmental articles in English and Spanish. The author emphasizes the importance of color symbolism as an interdisciplinary object of research related to culture, psychology and lexicography. The research focuses on the main aspects related to the emotional meaning of colors, their connotations, and the frequency of use in articles that highlight environmental issues. The study includes an analysis of environmental articles from English-language and Spanish-language newspapers such as The Guardian, The Sun, El Mundo, El País and ABC, for the period 2022-2023. As a result of the comparative analysis, unified and specific factors of the influence of colors as emotives were identified, among which there is a predominance of negative emotions associated with colors such as black, red, yellow and gray. Positive emotions are mostly associated with the colors green and blue, which are used to denote environmentally friendly practices and hope for positive change. The article focuses on the complex relationship between color and readers' emotional reactions, demonstrating how context determines the meaning of color meanings. Special attention is paid to the function of emotives in forming readers' opinions about environmental disasters and challenges. The conclusion underlines the need for further research on this topic for a deep understanding of lexical emotives and their role in the linguistic and cultural context. The main idea of the article is that the use of color meanings in language is a powerful tool for conveying emotions, and their variable meaning in different cultures reveals the specifics of perception and emotional reaction to environmental events. This aspect highlights the need to take into account the cultural context in linguistic research, as well as in the formation of effective communication on issues related to environmental protection.
